Scribble drawing is a simple yet powerful art therapy technique used to support self-expression, access unconscious thoughts, and reduce anxiety. The process begins with a few minutes of relaxation, breathing and meditation before starting and requires only a blank sheet of paper, a drawing utensil, and coloring materials. Participants begin by creating random, unplanned lines across the page — sometimes with their eyes closed or using their non-dominant hand — allowing themselves to let go of control and expectations.
Once the scribbles are complete, participants are encouraged to observe the shapes, images, or scenes that emerge within the lines. They then begin defining and developing those forms, adding color, shading, and detail as a way to explore emotions, imagination, and personal meaning through creative expression.
